Our family is growing! We are so happy to announce baby #2 is on the way! I’m 14.5 weeks pregnant and look like I’m 16+ weeks (HA)!  Finally, I can be open about my struggles the past couple of months with my body. This pregnancy has been a bit tough with sickness and fatigue since the beginning. Despite being in the second trimester, I’m still experiencing both but it’s improving a bit.

RUNNING & FITNESS

Throughout the first trimester, I ran great during the first couple of weeks of June but then I struggled to get any workouts in because I felt terrible. I even skipped races that I signed up for. When I did manage to run, I was out of breathe just walking so you can imagine my mileage and pace slowed down significantly! I typically work out while my daughter napped but during the first several weeks, I napped instead of working out because this baby demanded a lot of energy.

When I was 11 weeks pregnant, I managed to get my certification in barre so I have been doing barre in place of heavy weights. I’ve continued with teaching and practicing yoga, and manage to meditate most evenings. Currently, I’m running 2-3 times a week (1-3+ miles) and pray for a healthy pregnancy so I can continue running until late pregnancy. The plan is to run a 10K for Labor Day so I’ve added a couple of “long” runs of 4+ miles.

Slower but I’m still moving!

I’ve received clearance to continue with BJJ and running but I’ve decided to defer the Chicago Marathon because it’s a distance I have never done. I THINK my longest distance I’ll shoot for will be the 10K for the remainder of the pregnancy.

HOW I’VE BEEN EATING

I didn’t crave much in the first 3 months, as sick as I was. I lost 4 lbs but I’m back on the upswing. I’m a vegetarian so smelling any type of meat or pizza makes me gag.  I’m also experiencing a TON of aversions to food I normally love. I don’t want any veggies, Asian style bowls and noodles, or coffee/tea (though I made myself eat veggie rolls and salads a few times a week). Now that I’m feeling better, I’ve been craving salty food (crackers, chips), fruit, and I’m back to drinking 1 decaf coffee in the morning. I can’t wait to get my appetite back for vegetarian Asian and Indian food.

I finished a small jar of homemade pickles in one hour.

Did anyone run and/or workout while pregnant? I’d love any advice!

  1. Yay so exciting! I would for sure suggest a belly band to run with when you start showing. It helped so much. If you want a link to the one I got let me know and I’ll se if I can find it. Also, make sure that you’re refueling really well!

  2. How exciting – congratulations!!
Sorry to hear that you were so sick in the beginning but I hope that you continue to feel better throughout the next few months.

  3. Huge congrats!!! That is super exciting news!
I think it is super wise to defer races when you are not feeling your best! Races will always be there! 🙂
Hope the rest of your pregnancy goes well and you feel better!
