2018 has been an amazing year.  I managed to keep myself active and healthy for another year while cross training. From getting back into BJJ, races, yoga and more, let’s take a quick look at 2018!

RUNNING: My goal for 2018 was to run 500 miles, but I only got to 358 miles. I ran 10 races (2 out of state and 5 of those races while pregnant). Running officially ended a couple of weeks ago. My belly has been measuring about 3 weeks AHEAD, so you can imagine the extra weight on my pelvic floor and my big belly pulling me forward. Instead of running, I’ve been doing low impact cardio workouts like “speed” walking and barre.

Most of my 2018 bling!

YOGA: It was an honor to teach yoga at Prime Performance since November 2017 until their closing in October. I was about 20 weeks pregnant when they closed so I didn’t bother looking for another yoga teacher job. It has been nice to return to the mat and rediscover my love of practicing yoga as a student.

Practicing yoga since 2001!

BJJ: I haven’t taken a martial art I didn’t love. My first love is muay thai but BJJ is more accessible and can be applied to real life scenarios. I signed up in January but after getting pregnant this summer, it took a couple of classes to realize I didn’t feel comfortable enough to spar. If I were a long time practitioner, I probably would have trained more while pregnant but I’m too much of a novice. I can’t wait to get back to it next year.

I miss the gentle art of BJJ!

SWEAT PINK ATL & AMBASSADORSHIPS: I applied to be a 2018 ambassador for Zensah, Nuun, Sweat Pink, and most recently For Two Fitness. I also volunteered to be a chapter leader and started a Sweat Pink Atlanta group. I organized 5 events for 2018 and had so much fun with the ladies! I hope to see the ATL chapter grow in 2019.

I hope everyone had a great 2018 and I wish you a HAPPY & HEALTHY NEW YEAR!

What were some of your greatest fitness or health accomplishments in 2018? Any 2019 goals you’d like to share?

  1. I need to work on coming up with goals for next year. I keep getting asked and I just don’t have anything to deliver yet haha. But, I do have some great things I want to work on…just not specific goals yet.

  2. What an active and busy year for you! Kudos to you for staying so active during your pregnancy. That wasn’t much of a ‘thing’ when I was pregnant (my kids are in their 20s). I sure would be a trailblazer and do things differently if I had the chance. Here’s to good health and smooth sailing through the rest of your pregnancy!

  3. It’s great that you lead a local sweat pink chapter! We have one here, but I’ve had conflicts for most of the events. It is so fun to meet up in person when I can make it. Here’s to a great 2019!

  4. Great year for you! You did what you could and adjusted for a healthy pregnancy! How cool you also starred a sweat pink ATL chapter as well!

I’m happy with my year – I reclaimed my marathon again after two years, I focused on my health, mental and physical, and I feel strong going into the new year!

  5. I am awe of women who stay so active during pregnancy. My kids are all grown (youngest is a freshman in college), and back in the day, it wasn’t as main stream to be active. I walked a lot, but wasn’t a runner, and certainly didn’t do much for fitness. I”m glad I got the wake-up call LOL My biggest 2018 achievement was rallying back from emergency surgery (June 2017) and running my 8th marathon. Happy 2019!

  6. I love that you were able to continue being active and fit through your pregnancy! That’s so awesome.

You had a fabulous year. I know you might have missed your mileage goal, but you still did a great job and kept it up. I would love to start taking marital arts classes. I feel it would be so incredibly beneficial, but I don’t know if we could swing two family members in clasees. I’ll have to look more into it as the year goes on.
