June 7 is Global Running Day and I celebrated by running an easy 5K on the treadmill after lifting weights.
I restarted my running journey last month after I signed up for a half marathon that will take place in 2018! Luckily, my workout plans since January have included a little bit of running (intervals, a weekly jog) so I had a little bit of a running base.
I’m already up to 5 miles! Not so long ago, I was excited to run 1.30 miles straight! Running has given me new life. It’s freaking tough and I don’t understand why I embrace the suckiness of lungs burning and my mind telling me to take a WALK break (but I can’t…stop…running)!
8 days after I reached a milestone of 3 miles, I ran my first 5K of 2017! My last run was 2013. 6 days after that, I ran another 5K.
1. 5K on Memorial Day (30:55)! I started off in the back but quickly realized walker were right up front with the 6 minute milers. It was a tough course but considering I’ve only been training for a couple weeks, I’m proud of the results.
2. 5K on 6/4/17 (30:07 chip time)! I ran the first mile slowly so my husband and I could run together with our jogging stroller but I felt I needed to make a push, which he was ok with because he needed a walk break. I pushed the second mile and was hurting in the third mile. I’m new to this and will eventually figure out pacing. I’m thrilled with the result!
Next up? I’m aiming to run 1-2 “training” races per month until the big 2018 half marathon. I use the term “training” because these races are more for fun and a rehearsal for the big one. I don’t if I’m capable of running full out, nor would I want to right now since I’m still learning and building my base.
#stillinit17: I plan to keep lifting heavy and training like a fitness competitor (the workout plans have gotten me this far)!
