First, my heart goes out to all affected by Irma. My mother in law evacuated Florida with 3 fur babies and stayed with us. My kiddo loved bonding with her. As everyone knows, there was a lot of damage done in the Caribbean and FL, and it hit the southeast as a tropical storm, including us here in metro Atlanta. Our home only had some water damage but some family members in FL had it worse so no complaints from me. I loved hearing stories of people coming together through the tough time.
I was supposed to attend a yoga conference that weekend but I opted not to go. With my MIL in town and pending storm approaching the FL (I was worried about all my friends and family down there), I knew I would not enjoy myself. I know…the point of yoga (for some) is to escape and let go on the mat. Unfortunately, I would have been stressed out and thinking about the chaos in Florida and making sure our home was prepared for a storm. Now that the storm has passed, I can refocus on my fitness journey.
As I train for a Thanksgiving Turkey Trot, I decided to give another fitness challenge a go. This will be challenge #4 this year, which means I’ve participated in all of their 2017 challenges thus far. This challenge is 16 weeks long and will take us into December. I have a feeling it won’t be their most popular (compared to their January challenges) because it’s fall and holiday season is near. Most people don’t want to worry about winning online physique contests this time of year but I need the extra push to continue lifting as I dive deep into my 12 week running plan!
My goals for this challenge:
- LIFT to get strong! I was lifting for physique changes but I think I should lift heavier and go back to basics.
- Not get injured! This is my first time experiencing back to back half marathon training plans but it is nice to build milage back up slowly and to be under the guidance of a running coach.
- Transform my core. I’ve lost the baby weight and I’ve been active since 6 weeks postpartum. I don’t know what could happen in my midsection if I get stage lean, but at this point, I don’t want to lose weight. The only thing that can change the appearance of my midsection at this point is surgery (which I don’t plan on). I’d like to get my core even stronger, which will translate into better lifting and running sessions. Don’t get me wrong, I am proud of my mama pouch, I was blessed to carry a baby and experience growing a life! Honestly, I love my belly more now than I did pre-pregnancy.
- DO MORE YOGA.
What fall challenge are you going to do?
