While practicing yoga, I try to find new ways to change up my practice every time I step onto the mat. Sometimes it is focusing on alignment, breath, or repeating my intentions while holding a pose.
This week, I had horrendously sore hamstrings from a tough leg workout. I was so sore, I didn’t even want to attempt yoga, let alone any forward folds, but I showed up to the mat and got my stretch on. During my practice, I discovered a new way to forward fold-ON MY TIPPY TOES!
Forward folds are awesome for stretching the back of your legs and are said to bring relaxation and calm. I include a lot of forward folds during a bedtime yoga routine for this reason! By performing this forward fold on the toes, you will also work on balance and finding your drishti (focused gaze) and helps strengthen the ankles. A win-win if you ask me!
TIPS:
- Keep your core tight while bending so you support your back.
- Honor your body, if you feel any pain, back off of the pose.
- Feel free to bend your knees.
- Allow your neck to relax in the pose.
- Breathe
Namaste.
Next time you are forward folding during your practice, give it try!
Forward fold and child’s pose are my two favorite yoga poses. I love the calmness and the stretch it gives.
