Happy 2020! Wow, 2019 flew by so quickly. I don’t know if it’s because I’m older or if it’s because of all the baby fun but I can’t believe we are already in 2020. I spent New Year’s Eve in our cozy home on the couch. My husband and I fell asleep around 10:30pm waiting for midnight, we didn’t even open our sparkling grape juice. We drank it the next day. Never too late to cheers, right?
New Year, New Same Me
I used to go into every new year with a list the same resolutions. Every year was going to be THE YEAR I got shit done. Whether that meant planning a comeback to the stage to compete (in fitness), meditate daily, do yoga everyday, carve out time to read and journal, etc. This year is no different, I want to accomplish some of the same goals in 2020. However, I’m not so focused on my body’s appearance, PR’s or racing as much as I can. There’s a desire to work my mind by learning a new language and sticking to a meditation routine. I’d rather nap than run some days. Last June, I turned 40 years young. I noticed so much has changed within myself and my body. I want to stay healthy for myself but I always want to live long for my kids.
2020 Goals
- LEARN KOREAN: Learning a new language is good for the brain! I plan to spend 10-20 minutes a day learning how to read and write Hangul and how to speak Korean. Why Korean? My mom is Korean and we lived in South Korea for over 2 years when I was a child. I picked up on the language but lost it all when we moved. I’ve tried to learn it a few times since my 20’s but always fall off the track after a few days. I’m proud to say I’m already 8 days into a Korean streak and also include my husband and 3 year old in some lessons.
- MARATHON: Running a marathon is on my bucket list and I got selected for the 2020 Chicago Marathon! This is one of the reasons why I’m not setting a mileage goal or “race as much as I can” goal.
- MEDITATION: We all know the benefits. I’m at the point of feeling like I NEED to do this.
- 52 SMALL CHANGES FOR THE MIND: I tried to complete this book in 2019 but after the baby was born, I forgot it existed. I just need read it once a week and complete the weekly assignments. The book claims to help mold the mind, boost happiness, and help improve memory.
- LIFT WEIGHTS & DO YOGA: Getting older means muscle loss and the need for more flexibility. I plan to lift weights at least 3 times a week. As for yoga, I really need it for the physical asana. I have a few goals for diving deeper into yoga this year (daily readings, Ayurveda, attend workshops) but I’m not going to stress myself or force it.
- BLOG: Write more on this blog! I just helps to get ideas out, helps me stay on track with my fitness goals, and it’s great to recap events that have happened.
There it is! I have other ideas to keep me engaged with different fitness modalities and yoga but I will cross those bridges soon. I wish everyone peace, health, and happiness in 2020.
Those are some nice goals! Where’s the BJJ Goal this year?? Kidding.. marathon’s are no joke, that’s awesome! Hoping to do one next year myself, good luck and happy 2020!
