Welcome to October (where is the cooler weather?)! The summer flew by for me, maybe it’s because I had to deal with my beautiful 2 year old’s new activities and the first trimester of pregnancy. I have been taking long breaks from social media and blogging because I’m still sick and still very tired but I do feel a slight improvement in my energy level today, so here’s to hoping that my energy continues to soar through the fall.

YOGA: Last Saturday, I taught my final yoga class at Prime Performance. Unfortunately, it was time to close the business.  Though I’m sad, I am grateful for the opportunity to teach yoga to a variety of students (from athletes to adults).  I’m not sure if I’ll seek out another teaching position since I’m in the middle of my pregnancy but I’ll look out for any subbing or private teaching opportunities.

  • I cut out all inversions (except downward facing dog and forward bends).
  • No more prone poses.
  • I’m no longer practicing supine poses unless I’m propped up with blocks and a bolster.
  • The only arm balance I’m comfortable practicing is crow pose.

RUNNING: My last long run was Labor Day. For the last couple of weeks, running has caused some discomfort due to round ligament pain, back pain, and the sensation that I have to pee (even if I empty my bladder right before running).

  • I always walk for 5+ minutes for a warmup.
  • My pace is 13-15 min/mile, depending on how many walk breaks I take.
  • I wear a belly band when I run to prevent round ligament pain.
  • I’m not sure if I will run in the third trimester, I seem to really enjoy walking more right now.
  • I’m signed up for a couple more 5Ks.

MY BODY:

  • It’s amazing how much the body adapts and changes to accommodate a growing baby. I get winded going up stairs so you can imagine how I feel while running.
  • My balance is OFF all the time.
  • Sometimes I forget about belly when doing simple day-to-day movements.
  • I’ve been sleeping on my left side pretty much the whole pregnancy and my left hip is sore. I joked that I’m worried I’ll develop a pressure ulcer from laying on it all night (nurses, you get it, right?).
  • I lost 4 lbs in the 1st trimester, and gained it back PLUS an additional 5 lbs.
  • I’m still feeling nausea and occasionally vomiting, I mostly feel like this at night so I make sure I eat a lot of nutritious snacks and meals before 4-5pm and eat light at night (if I eat at all).
  • Food aversions mostly have gone away.

Cheers to a fit and healthy October for all! May we all balance out the Halloween goodies with sweaty and fun workouts.

What’s your favorite part about October?

  1. Congrats on getting through the first tri 😉 My food aversions/cravings were crazy, and they were different with all three of my kids….it’s funny how the hormones can change your tastes and likes/dislikes so much!

  2. Congrats on getting through your first trimester! I have never been pregnant, but my friends that have say the first trimester is the hardest so hopefully your nausea will subside more now.

Great job on still staying so active!

  3. It sounds like you are doing well listening to your body and taking care of yourself. You’ve made some smart adjustments and are still very active.
